WNY Law Enforcement Helpline

Law enforcement is a difficult profession.. It has the potential to cause significant stress in an officer’s professional and home life. Suicide is the leading cause of death for police officers and occurs two to three times as frequently as line of duty death.

Often the officer and his/her family do not know where help and support services are available to assist in addressing these concerns. In recognition of these unique needs combined with a reluctance to access traditional mental health services or employee assistance programs, the Western New York Law Enforcement Helpline was created.

The Helpline is a volunteer program that provides 24/7 confidential assistance, information, and referrals by trained Law Enforcement Peers and Family Peers to working and retired law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and their families for any issue that may impact work and family life.

The K.I.A. Memorial Roadmarch

started to honor and remember the members of our Armed Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our Country. (“KMR”) started when SGM Jason Jaskula wanted to find a way to honor the memory of his Battle Buddy, Christopher Dill.

Chris, a Staff Sgt. in the United States Army Reserves as well as a Buffalo Firefighter, was Killed In Action (K.I.A.) while deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom on April 4, 2005 in Diyala, Iraq. He left behind family and friends who deeply miss him.

On November 23, 2012 the first K.I.A. Memorial Roadmarch was held. It was a solo March, with Jason walking 22K carrying 60lbs of Memorial Rocks. Each rock barred the name of a service member from WNY K.I.A. during Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn (OEF/OIF/OND).

It took him 3 hours 20 minutes and he raised $4,000. The “KMR” has become an annual 10K ruck march through Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park, NY. Participants will march, run, walk or crawl, a 10K either as a Individual or Team while carrying rucks (back packs) filled with non perishable goods.
